5 Ways you’ll save big bucks on your next vacation if you work the sales
Whether you’re trying to score a last-minute holiday cruise deal or planning ahead for your family’s summer vacation to Europe, you could save a bundle by taking advantage of the sales leading up to Black Friday through Cyber Monday. Yes, like those big box store and online retailers, travel providers - think airlines, hotels, and cruise lines - will be offering their best deals of the year.
Unlike in past years, you don’t have to camp out in front of your computer on Cyber Monday. Travel deals are likely to begin the week before Black Friday and last through Cyber Monday. However, the time to do your homework is now. Choose a few locations of interest and then get an idea of current, pre-sale prices. Sign up for travel providers’ newsletters and follow their social media accounts; sometimes a sale will only be announced to social followers.
We here at KidTripster have checked in with many of the travel providers that we’ve showcased on this site and gotten advanced information about their upcoming sales. That’s right, these providers are already KidTripster-approved, giving you some added confidence regarding your purchase.
Bottom line, if you’re traveling in 2019, you should be shopping these sales!
Here’s a look at 5 places where we expect to see deals!
Look for budget airlines like Frontier and JetBlue to advertise some outrageously low, one-way fares within the United States, but they’ll likely be limited to large hub cities with departures in the winter and spring, according to DealNews. Other domestic carriers, too, will offer low, one-way fares.
DealNews also predicts airfares to Europe to go for as low as $199 roundtrip, but it won’t be to desirable locations like London or Paris. DealNews points to these fares from last year’s Black Friday sale:
Baltimore to Reykjavik for $200 roundtrip on WOW Air
KidTripster Tip: If the cheap flight to Europe isn’t going to your desired city, consider snapping it up anyway. You can always purchase a low-cost flight on Ryanair, Norwegian Air or another budget carrier to get you to your final destination. Or consider taking a train between cities.
But before you click “buy” on any site, check the fare on our partner, AirTreks. AirTreks specializes in putting together multi-stop itineraries but also offers competitive pricing on regular flights. Personally, I saved more than $900 last week booking two tickets to Ireland through AirTreks versus booking directly with Icelandair. Check them out here.
Please know that if you use our link to book, we get some coffee money from AirTreks. There’s no additional cost to you. Just wanted you to know!

Chain hotels like IHG, Marriott, Omni and Wyndham typically have hotel sales. But rather than a brand, you may want to focus on a location. According to DealNews, Las Vegas properties will be offering winning rates. Expect rooms as low as $20/night at off-the-Strip hotels like the Stratosphere and rooms as low as $30/night in Strip hotels like Caesars Palace.
DealNews also points to New York City with rooms as low as $50/night around the city and rooms around Times Square as low as $97/night.
KidTripster-reviewed The Citizen Hotel in Sacramento, California has 20% off rates plus a $50 food and beverage credit for Grange Restaurant and Bar for travel starting in December through the end of March. Use promo code LPR.

If your family can travel spur of the moment, you could sail away on a discounted cruise just before Thanksgiving. Look for those sales the week before Black Friday. In fact, cruise lines often drop the prices on open cabins close to departure dates throughout the year.
Or if you’re just looking for a short getaway - 4 or 5 nights - check for sales on Carnival, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean. For example, DealNews say 4-night cruises to Cozumel, Mexico, on Norwegian and Carnival will be as low as $360!
