Is Oga’s Cantina Overrated?

Our Disney expert visits Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge bar to see if worth your time & money

It was big news when Disneyland opened its first bar, Oga’s Cantina inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. It’s the first place to serve alcohol to regular guests inside of the park. (The only other location to serve alcohol is the exclusive and private Club 33.)

Reservations are recommended

If you want to visit Oga’s Cantina on the planet of Batuu, you can make reservations 60-days in advance. If you want to visit Oga’s Cantina, you really do need to make a reservation. During my family’s recent visit, people without reservations were being turned away.

KidTripster Tip: All other restaurants at Disneyland also take 60-day advance reservations, as well. Book ahead.

KidTripster Tip: If you’re looking to visit Oga’s Cantina at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort, know that you can make reservations up to 180 days in advance.

So what does a reservation really mean?

So what does a reservation mean, anyway? Basically, it grants you permission to join a line of people waiting outside to enter Oga’s Cantina. You can line up as early as 10 minutes prior to your reservation time. If you get distracted by the sights and sounds of Black Spire Outpost and miss your reservation time, you’ll be charged a fee. Don’t miss your time!

Once you get to the front of the line after a few minutes of waiting, you’ll be ushered inside. A reservation simply allows you to enter, but it doesn’t guarantee seating. In our case, we were shown to a crowded, high-top table. That didn’t work so well for our family as my 6-year-old son (at 48-inches tall) was too short to even see over the table. If we wanted a booth, we were told that we’d need to wait approximately an hour for one to open up – and the people sitting in all the comfy-looking booths definitely weren’t in a hurry to leave.

We weren’t planning to stay long, so we just stood at the high top. We’d been given one menu to look at and before we could even pass it around, a cast member was already at our table to take our order. This overly-speedy service may have something to do with the 45-minute time limit for guests.

Your food & drink options

Oga’s Cantina serves primarily drinks, the kind with funny names and bright colors. The beverages are offered both with and without alcohol. After a quick glance at the menu, we ordered Blue Banthas for the kids, a Fuzzy Tauntaun for mom, and a Jet Juice for dad.

During our visit, just two food items were on the menu. We tried them both: Batuu Bits (a funky, Asian-inspired snack mix) and Oga’s Obsession (a cotton-candy flavored, boba pearl concoction). The menu has been updated since our visit to include another food offering – the Happabore Sampler which is a charcuterie tray.

As for the cost? Well, four drinks, two snacks plus a tip amounted to just under a hundred bucks. Yes, pricey!

You’ll get atmosphere

Oga’s Cantina definitely had atmosphere. DJ R-3X – who you may have seen from his Star Tours appearance – is now in permanent residency as the DJ, spinning intergalactic techno. The decor is spot on. You feel like you’re walking onto the set of a Star Wars movie. But then you see little kids drinking from sippy cups at the table next to you, and you remember that you’re at Disneyland.

To be honest, we weren’t all that impressed with Oga’s Cantina. The drinks were a bit too sweet and a tad too spendy. But if you ever wanted to hang out in a cantina like the one from the original Star Wars, this is the place to go. So perhaps, it’s worth it from that perspective.

KidTripster Tip: If you just want to try blue or green milk, you can grab a drink at the Milk Stand. These frothy, non-alcoholic beverages are pretty tasty on a hot California day. They cost $8 each. The line at the Milk Stand may seem long, but it moves quickly because the stand only serves drinks.

KidTripster Tip: If you want to make your own lightsaber or droid, you can make advance reservations for that, too. Reservations open 60 days in advance for Savi’s Workshop and Droid Depot. These experiences are popular and do book up.
