Universal's Volcano Bay, Florida

Universal Orlando Resort, Florida

New details about Orlando’s next theme park, set to open May 2017.

Universal Orlando Resort released new details about its third theme park, Volcano Bay, opening on May 25, and its state-of-the-art Krakatau Aqua Coaster.  Plus, park goers won’t have to stand in long lines to experience any of the attractions, thanks to new technology.

Krakatau Aqua Coaster

Universal says that Krakatau will be the first-of-its-kind aqua coaster in Florida.  You’ll board a 4-person canoe that will propel you downwards and upwards through the volcano’s interior peaks and valleys.  Yes, you’ll twist, turn, and plummet through dark passageways.  And using linear induction motor technology like Revenge of the Mummy, your canoe will be literally launched uphill and then immediately plunged downhill.

TapuTapu wearable

Universal's Volcano Bay plans to combine exhilarating experiences with hassle-free convenience, so families can get the most out of their vacations.  When you arrive at the park, you’ll receive a free TapuTapu wearable that will give you special powers:

  • You’ll be able to virtually wait in line while you play in other areas of the park.  The wearable will alert you when it’s time for your ride, so that you can head to the attraction.
  • With a tap of TapuTapu, you’ll be able to trigger special effects throughout the park.  You can control streams of water spurting from whales in Tot Tiki Reef, shoot water cannons at other guests snaking down Kopiko Wai Winding River, and illuminate images in the volcano’s hidden caves.
